Courtlin Holt-Nguyen graduated with Honors in 2004 from Virginia Tech with a major in Finance and a minor in Business Information Technology. After working in GE’s Medical Systems division and then in their Global Business Exchange division, he left corporate America to work as an IT consultant for a small medical research company. In 2005, Courtlin moved to Hawaii to pursue his MBA at the University of Hawaii Shidler College of Business. While attending classes, Courtlin worked for the College and built a SQL database to streamline the MBA admissions process. After finishing his MBA, Courtlin continued working for the College as a graduate student in the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship while he completed a second Master’s degree in Botany with a concentration in Ecology.
After graduating from UH, Courtlin joined the State of Hawaii Employees’ Retirement System as the Investment Specialist for the $10 billion public pension fund. He was responsible for monitoring the pension fund’s team of 30+ investment managers and building computer models related to the pension fund’s investment assets. In 2011, he left the pension fund to join Diamond Head Financial Advisors as an investment advisor focused on information technology companies.
